I Propose We Break Up

The Team

Meet the “I Propose We Break Up” Team

We are an all female team passionate about narratives that encourage bravery and empowerment. This film examines the connection between social anxiety and social media. We want to inspire our audience to embrace their authentic selves as they watch our heroine Clara face her fears head-on.

Vanessa Boss (Executive Producer/Writer)

Vanessa Boss is an entertainment industry professional who started her career as an actor for stage and screen. She began her journey as writer and star of her one woman show, “Uprooted”, which she performed across the Los Angeles area as part of Solofest and The Hollywood Fringe Festival. She was also an official selection of the prestigious LA Women’s Theatre Festival that recognizes female writers and performers for their innovation in the arts.

Vanessa’s perspective as a writer was defined by her fantastical childhood where she traveled the world with her family, living in Asia, Europe and across North America. After receiving her BFA in Acting from Emerson College in 2015, Vanessa moved one more time to Los Angeles to pursue a career in the film industry. She is most inspired by creating characters who embark on a journey of self-revelation, growing into who they are meant to be, by revealing what is behind how they present themselves to the world. As a recovered perfectionist herself, Vanessa sees the value in how sharing our "ugly" can bring more contentment and intimacy in our relationships. She is thrilled to be embarking on her producing journey through the creation of Uprooted Films and releasing the company's first film "I Propose We Break Up."

Alyssa Carroll (Director)

Informed by her tiny-town upbringing, Alyssa’s style of storytelling is intimate and unafraid of being a bit wacky. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Emerson College, and from there moved out to Los Angeles, CA where she spent time learning and growing in the world of post production.

Alyssa has directed for iO Comedy Network where she led a team in creating bi-monthly comedy sketches for YouTube distribution. Her original web pilot, Illegal to a Degree, was a top-four finalist in Filmaka’s Multi-Genre Web Series Competition. Most recently, Alyssa has been directing as a student in The Second City’s competitive, year-long directing program. When she’s not making short films, Alyssa is writing, creating comedy sketches with peers from The Second City, and trying her best to coax her garden into staying alive.

Michelle Kwong is a native New York cinematographer now based in Los Angeles. Her passion for visual imagery stemmed from her desire to convey, capture, and instill emotions that she previously couldn't do with words alone. Michelle's love for visual imagery began with her exploration of photography, which gradually grew into an interest in cinematography.

With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in cinematography from Emerson College, Michelle has shot a wide range of content that include narrative short films, music videos, web series and commercials.
