A Letter On IPWBU From Our Writer, Vanessa Boss
“It excites me to call “I Propose We Break Up” a self-love romantic comedy. I think our world needs more stories about women falling in love with themselves. Don’t get me wrong, I am a huge fan of romantic comedies, but we don’t see too many of them anymore! I think that’s because we crave stories that show us romantic love is not a defining factor of our intrinsic value despite so many narratives saying otherwise. In this film, I wanted to explore different kinds of relationships and the importance of authentic friendship. Our protagonist is a social media influencer, Clara, who lives her life safely isolated behind a filter. Her journey is about breaking free from curating a likeable version of herself with the hopes of acceptance and instead embracing her imperfections and finding she is accepted by those who are truly meant to be in her life. It is a millennial “dramedy” full of quirky humor and heart that is sure to leave you feeling warm, fuzzy and empowered.”
